Should i sell on ebay or craigslist

The risks of online marketplaces that require in-person meet-ups are pretty well known at this point. You've heard the news stories, and read the warnings, and I'm not going to discuss personal safety considerations for online sales in depth.

Craigslist has a safety guide available for exactly this purpose. In short, always listen to your gut and always meet the other seller in a public place whenever possible.

So yes, eBay doesn't involve meeting up with strangers. Beyond that, eBay is also the safer option when it comes to your financial security -- and that's an important consideration as well!

But, when you're dealing with expensive electronics worth hundreds or thousands of dollars, eBay's option to authorize payments via PayPal or major credit cards is a smart idea. These options prevent you from directly handling large amounts of cash, and create a paper record of your transaction. You can also view potential buyers' profiles and reviews written about their conduct by other users. This lets you see if potential buyers have been honest in their past dealings on eBay, and helps you decide whether to trust them.

It's always a good idea to be cautious because eBay scams are real , and you should always take precautions. By combining these tools with your judgement and reasoning skills, you should be able to avoid any safety issues when selling your devices. If something does go wrong with an online sale, it helps to have somewhere to turn for support. Unfortunately, with Craigslist, you're basically out of luck. A brief FAQ section answers some of users' most pressing questions, but if a deal goes south, you're left to deal with the fall out.

A detailed customer service page directs you to several different options based on your circumstance. If a buyer goes back on their word or their payments , you have a few options: send the invoice again, cancel the sale, or report the buyer to the site. Based on the situation, you may also be eligible for a "final value fee credit" if the buyer disappears without a trace and you are not at fault.

When you are selling expensive and valuable electronic items, it's always good to know that your online marketplace will support you if necessary. Selling your old electronic gadgets can be an amazing way to make some money while clearing off some space at your desk. Whether you're using eBay, Craigslist, Facebook, or any other online marketplace , be sure to be safe and cautious. If you've used either eBay or Craigslist to sell electronics, I'd love to hear about your experiences!

Let me know what you thought of the site in the comments below. Everyones happy though, so all good. I've sold several big ticket items on craigslist, including two vehicles. Both times we met at my bank and deposited the money immediately.

Craiglist you need to have an idea what the item is worth or what you want out of it. Sometimes i'm surprised how high some items go that i thought was just a nickel or dime item.. I'm in the country and it runs in streaks my sales on cl. That is why i think it isn't an ebay problem.

More like people living on monthly limits and have access only at certain times. Bigger items, i rotate them, i'll list it here and then there when it runs out and vice versa. Both venues i do get buyers from other states. My really fragile items or hard to box and ship items or items usps frowns on , i try to sell on the list. You thought people were bottom feeders here, they are worse on the list at least in my area. Luckily i have a shop here because i would otherwise get upset when someone makes a time to come over and they never show, at least i am able to do something productive while i was waiting for the deadbeats.

Yes, cash is king on the list and yes it could sell within minutes after listing but not all items do but is nice when it does happen.

There is room for both venues for me. Just depends on the item if it get listed here or there or some cases it gets rotated between the 2. Didn't bother listing either one here. I've never been killed by a Craigslist buyer or seller. But I live in safe NYC, not middle America where you're more likely to be murdered just for ringing someone's doorbell fearing that you're the government coming for their guns.

If you can't spot counterfeit money, you shouldn't be buying and selling. It's a thousand times more likely that a PayPal payment will turn out to be "counterfeit. Turn on suggestions.

Selling off eBay is only against the rules if you are selling to someone who got in contact with you on eBay.

Remember, you own the merchandise and you can do what you want with it, within the rules of course. I've never heard about any type of pricing regulation, what you want to charge is no one's business but yours'. I used to offer all my pick up only items on CL at the same time. I know of no problem with them being different prices. My prices were almost always different because of the fees. My problem arose when a potential buyer contacted me about possible pick up locations via email on ebay.

I responded with info problem right there I now realize about where I was willing to meet them. They didn't buy. Fast forward three weeks and another buyer from a different part of the state bought on CL. I then ended my ebay listing and quickly got a warning and put on probation about off site sales.
