The Navara performs very well, allowing, for example safe, quick overtaking manoeuvres. Unladen, the Navara has a firm ride but it absorbs bigger bumps better than many of the leaf-spring utes.
The Navara can tow up to kg, but Nissan only allows a maximum of kg towball download, instead of the typical kg allowance. Unlike most other manufacturers, Nissan is quite specific about reducing TBM when you have loaded up the Navara. Nissan is not alone here, but it would be good to see more manufacturers following the likes of Ford and Land Rover with a pin setup, given just about all caravanners will want to power a fridge when towing.
Capable towing is engineered right into the Navara. With plenty of power and low-end torque, you're ready to tow up to 3, KG on all models. Your cargo and material are secure with revolutionary C-channel tie-down system. Heavy-duty forged-aluminum cleats easily slide in the channels for unmatched flexibility to tie things down — and the strength to hold them.
Wherever you want to go and whatever the conditions, Nissan Navara can help you get there with 4-wheel drive high, 4-wheel drive low, Hill Descent Control and a locking rear differential. Hill Start Assist keeps you from rolling backwards when setting off on an incline. It simply holds the brakes on long enough for you to move your foot from brake to accelerator.
Going down even the steepest hill is no problem for the Navara 4x4. If you're an experienced tow vehicle driver, you won't use the camera much, but it does help when you're manoeuvring in tight spaces.

Once connected, the unladen trailer sat nicely on the tow ball, as it should given it doesn't weigh much in the overall scheme of things. One thing we did appreciate is the wide wheel track of the Warrior, which makes it easy to position what is a fairly wide trailer in the lane.
It can be a little disconcerting if you're towing a wide trailer with a narrow vehicle, in terms of anticipating where the trailer is sitting behind you.
The standard exterior rear-view mirrors worked nicely for us on test with our car trailer, keeping in mind that you're only hauling something the width of a car on the trailer. If you have a super-wide caravan or horse float, you will want to consider wider, tow-specific rear-view mirrors.
Either as a permanent fixture or temporary. On the move, with the little Datsun loaded up, the Warrior tows effortlessly up to highway speed. Acceleration is smooth and easy, the gearbox doesn't do anything funny, and the reworked rear end doesn't feel unsettled by the — admittedly light — weight over the rear. As I noted above, our trailer is a particularly good one to tow with, but the Warrior still does it easily.
It's comfortable, too, thanks largely to the way the trailer distributes the weight, so it doesn't bounce and rock constantly. Good trailer brakes mean there isn't too much shunting through the chassis of the Warrior, even when you do need to use the brakes a little harder than you'd like to.
The fuel use settling into the low 10s is indicative of the fact that the 2. We say it often, but use a six- or seven-speeder and you really do wonder whether 10 isn't overkill.
The general drive experience remains smooth, even on nastier road surfaces, with the Warrior remaining composed for the duration of our drive. You'll note that we often write here that if you do need to tow a lot of weight regularly, the dual-cab segment isn't the one you should be looking at.
However, around the kg mark, most of the dual-cabs aren't being worked too hard or being pushed to something they aren't comfortable with. Given kg is the kind of weight that most Australians would be likely to tow most often, it's worth noting that the Warrior can do that with ease. Add the towball weight of a caravan, and the ride firms up: ready for the dual purpose of carrying a load and four people.
Nissan are so confident of the strength of the new Navara that they have given it a 3. Bakkies and double cabs attract the GCM rule rather the GVM as in the case of sedan vehicles, since bakkies and double cabs have the additional load-carrying capacity of the load bay. So, you need to remember that anything non-standard and ex-factory that you add such as a canopy or roof rack is extra weight, and must be added to that which you are towing.
All in all, this may not exceed 5 kg, unless you equip the trailer with additional vacuum-operated brakes. For this Navara which has a Tare of 1 kg, that means you have 4 kg left before you hit the GCM. With a GVM of 2 kg, you can load a ton in your Navara remember, this will include passengers and any add-ons , and still tow a caravan of about 3 kg. The 4-cylinder diesel engine has a capacity of 2.
Whether you are towing or not, it makes no difference: it gets up and goes! When driving in traffic and around town, the onboard computer will indicate an average of 9 litres per km.
