It's people writing, "How to", articles and "news report", style hubs. There are quite a few people who don't seem to care what they write, as long as they write a lot of it. I came across two different girls who wrote complaint articles last night. One complained about her husband never using the hamper for his socks. And the other wrote about how hard it is to find a job, strait out of college. So the answer is "yes", you can write fiction.
I'd suggest that you write what you know the most about. Or simply write about whatever you want, within the hubpages parameters. Some people on here, write nothing but poetry. Some are all about tips, or reviews. I don't try to use other people's hubs as the standard by which I write mine. I rather be original, than just another face in the crowd. I just thought up a new idea for how to write some interesting hubs.
I won't share it, but it's a little goofy. It will involve me writing some non fictional stories. I asked a few of my followers what they thought of the idea, and they all liked it! So if I can write the goofy things I write, and people care to read them, I'm certain you can write the way you want to as well.
If in doubt Run some of your ideas past your fans, and see what they think! Good Luck! I feel concerned that the reason google may prefer ehow as opposed to hubpages, is because there is an abundance of poetry and short stories. I am not by any means saying that those who publish the short stories and poetry are not good, but they are not usually searchable or high market. I thought of asking how many other people are in the same - rather difficult!
I work as seminar lecturer and translator, but my works of fiction are by far more important for I'm not sure how I can contribute, I like writing fiction but the only thing I've ever felt confident about was my religious belief but even then, I haven't read the whole bible. I was a cook for years but I still don't feel like an expert. Do you only want people who write about facts. Thank you Which do you find easier to write: fiction or nonfiction?
Do you write both or just one in your hubs? What subjects do you usually write about? I love to write about many subjects! Self help and animals! Duplicate content, plagiarism and such are not allowed. If you wonder whether or not an article, photo or video crosses the line, then it probably does. You can always contact HubPages and ask. Immediately after publishing the Hub you need to begin promoting it. If you have linked your social networking sites then you can easily promote your Hubs on your social networking sites. Visit other Hubs and share them with social media as well. Those in the community will likely return the favor.
HubPages get a lot of comments. You can participate or not as you see fit. You may also be notified via email if someone asks you a specific question. Participation will also improve your Hubber Score. Spotlight articles are those articles that you want highlighted for one reason or another.
One good practice is to spotlight your most recent articles for at least a week. Then put your newer articles in the spotlight. These articles get more notice and thus tend to get more traffic. This is especially true later on when you have a large number of Hubs. For those of you who are looking for an outlet for your creative writing or poetry, this is a great place for you. Unlike most writing sites that will only allow non-fiction, HubPages not only allows fiction and poetry but they actively encourage it!
You can publish your poems, short stories and even your own videos here. The Hub Score is the individual tracking score of a particular article. The higher the score then the more likely it is to be featured and promoted by HubPages.
The Hubber Score is your individual score. You also get badges and recognition for completing certain Hub goals. Things like, first Hub published, 10 th Hub Published, so many likes and so on. Just little goals to help keep you motivated and make the site more enjoyable. You have the option of displaying these badges or not.
You can turn them on or off in your profile. As with any residual site it can take time to build up a following and start earning decent money. HubPages makes it fun and allows you to write about things that might not interest direct clients but still have value to readers. Enjoy writing for this site and within a few months you should start reaping the rewards.

I am having more and more organic pageviews of my fiction. You might have to consciously insert some keywords into the story and title, but it's worth a try. Also, try to be involved outside HP with your fiction. That way your name as a fiction writer will get around more and people might google you on HP or on LetterPile. Make sure all your work is being moved to LetterPile. Your work in pet sitting might be a format that is of interest to you and others.
Do you have true stories you could tell in which you utilize your creative writing skills and at the same time help and entertain readers? Good luck in your fiction writing. I'm involved in the NYC Midnight competitions in flash fiction and short stories. They also have screenwriting and short screenplay competitions. If you participate in the forum during the competitions, it is a great way to get valuable feedback on your writing.
I am searching for ways to draw people to my fiction because that is what I really care about. I don't have much personal experience so I don't know what kind of how-to I could write about. Plus, I hate mundane topics about daily life. Regular everyday things don't interest me. I probably won't get much as a nonfiction writer then. I want to write things I am interested in, that I'd like to write about in fiction. Adventure, global events Money isn't the only thing that's valuable, in fact some things are more so, that you can't quantify-- I don't want to mainly write for money, but because it's my passion and I want to share it with others.
BUT I do need money. I want to earn money from something that I like. That I want to write about. Be an entrepreneur. I am, with pet sitting, but I still can't make a living on that. I also do want something more-- something more creative, intellectual.
Thanks for tips Chris,I much appreciate it. Nikki, That is so true. Here on HP, writing these kinds of articles that bring traffic to your account actually helps keep all your hubs featured. At least that is how it seems to me. Since I have been focusing on attracting more traffic from Google and Pinterest, I don't have unfeatured hubs. So try to get a few practical ones up and see if you get more traffic.
Excellent tips Chris,I'll try to write on helpful topics. Its true , I like to write fiction but you should try to write out of comfort zone too.
It's great that you shared you successful efforts in diversifying your topics. The How-to hub is a wonderful way to draw in the interested reader. Like you said, if it made you curious, it would probably be of interest to other people. Ann, knowledge via personal experience seems to be the trump card for excellent hubs. Thanks for stopping by and reading. Great ideas here, Chris. My top three hubs are either 'how-to's or information hubs, all based on personal experience.
The top one is a recipe. The irony there is that I'm not keen on cooking nor am I particularly good at it! Many of my hubs on dyslexia do quite well too. However, I still prefer to write fiction or poetry. It's always a good idea to try something outside the comfort zone though. Bill, you raise the other benefit of this site.
Up to now they have allowed us to focus our attention on writing fiction even though it doesn't benefit them as much as some other types of hubs. Your fiction is widely read and appreciated. Everything you say is true, Chris. By far my most-viewed articles are ones dealing with a useful topic My fiction dies on the vine year after year Eric, nice to see you. But in reality, people don't search for adventures but for places to eat, sleep and relax, more commonly known as all inclusive resorts.
You and I are a rare breed, Eric. This is very helpful. I just looked and for sure my few how to and informational hubs are like ten times more visit successful. Shannon, I searched for that just last week?
