Science has always commanded the utmost priority of our policymakers. I consider it a privilege to preside over this hallowed organization in the seventh decade of its outstanding service to our nation.
In the early days of Independence, it was a champion of import substitution, rebuilding our industrial base in the face of shortages and resource crunch. During this time, the Council also catapulted India as the top generic drug producer. After India embraced globalization, introduced economic reforms and joined the WTO, the CSIR quickly emerged as the flag bearer of the Intellectual Property movement in our country and became the single largest holder of US and European patents.
The Council, in recent years, has also become a world leader in specific domains of biotechnology and recombinant DNA products. I would like to particularly compliment the Council on its unique attempt to make healthcare affordable by exploiting the power of open source drug discovery.
As a concept, this is a global first and the world has turned from skepticism to partnership. I am happy to learn that the Council has opened its patent chest for accelerated drug discovery for hitherto neglected diseases like tuberculosis and malaria. While we aim for global excellence and competitive advantage for our country in science, the Council must not lose sight of the mandate of science in our country that Jawaharlal Nehru spoke about while addressing the Indian Science Congress in I am glad that the Council has remained firmly rooted in the social milieu of our country while selecting and implementing projects.
I commend the recent CSIR programme which aims at affordable scientific interventions to improve the quality of life of the people at the base of the economic pyramid. In recent times, conventional scientific disciplines and approaches are proving unequal to dealing with complex developmental challenges.
New disciplines are emerging at the interface of traditional boundaries. The newly created Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research promises to train our young scientists and engineers in trans-disciplinary skills by tapping into the entire resources and infrastructure of the CSIR fraternity. This is a good initiative and I look forward to early results. Manmohan Singh is absolutely right.
But under Modi, India is moving towards a dangerous direction that will unwind all the good progress India has made in the last 10 years. Mansur Ul Haque. This man who brought so much success to India, it was because of his policies to day India is economic giant. Due to his policies crores of Indians rose above the poverty line. Definitely it must be stressful for him to see India once again going back to dark ages. Zak who. Have you ever heard or read any opposition leader anywhere in the world taking good about the ruling party.
Ashok Dey. Before commenting this, Mr. MMS, did you take permission from your Italian Boss? However, may be you were a good finance minister but you were a totally failed national leader too. Moreover, any changes come with pain. So I will pass your comment. Zia Khan. He will speak the same. Ahsan Gul. Mar 08, am. Sing, Modi was raised in a prejudiced society and is behaving accordingly. Anything other than hate is not expected from this man.
American by Heart. What have you done during your govt, nothing, looted the nation. Khurram Babar. It is so obvious. Singh, what about the riots that you conveniently forget?

I work with partners across various categories — global luxury behemoths as well as renowned Indian brands. At Reliance our team works across a plethora of key sustainability issues impacting all sectors — energy, chemicals, retail and digital services.
To me, working at Reliance means scaling up our positive impact on the human and beyond human world alike. In an era where business sustainability is a worldwide priority, we have the freedom to utilize global skills in a local context and leapfrog into an innovative and more conscious way of doing business.
Having worked globally in a niche space like sustainability, I continue to be excited by the seriousness and urgency with which Reliance responds to sustainable development opportunities. Apart from a rewarding and purpose-driven career path, Reliance has also given me a platform to execute my ideas and help impact the lives of millions. I must admit that when I switched to Reliance from a consulting company in , I had mixed feelings. However, as time passed, I received so many opportunities to do work that I found joy in, that I have spent 27 years at Reliance and counting!
My portfolio of projects gives me immense satisfaction — from being a technical project lead of aromatics at Hazira to writing programmes to chairing a Hazard and Operability study.
This passion has led me into working at almost all Reliance plants — from refinery to petrochemicals, and from polymers to power plants. We have implemented projects from concept to commissioning — only a handful of manufacturing companies in the world can make this claim! Reliance Oil to Chemicals division is a paradise for chemical engineers. My family and I deeply cherish our journey at Reliance. My experience working with Reliance has been nothing short of extraordinary. Being part of a team that executed the grand vision of catalysing the Indian entrepreneurial ecosystem and building JioGenNext as a leading corporate startup engagement program has been a phenomenal journey.
It served as a great platform for me to connect and collaborate with some of the best minds in the industry, including Reliance management across its diverse businesses, global thought-leaders, industry stalwarts, and budding entrepreneurs. Reliance has been at the forefront of innovation. This has encouraged me to identify and engage with best-in-class organisations and startups working on the latest technologies to further drive the innovation agenda. Reliance gives me the freedom to question the status quo, encourages lateral thinking and provides unparalleled access to resources to learn, grow and contribute in a meaningful manner.
Working at Reliance is not just about having a job and earning a living, it is about building a rich career.
